Huu Door
Arabic Sajedahs
22:18 – al-Hajj
Note: A warning and instruction about how God's way is the only way. Also that life is
eternal, the question then remains, what kind of life will that be? Ignorant people will
have diverse opinions, but Islam will have only one opinion about how salvation works.
Warnings come to agnostics, materialists, and people who feel there is no consequence
for their actions. The pagan Arabs did not believe in afterlife, so therefore they felt no
obligation to obey limits willingly. Once they understood that Rasoolallaah (sal) was
exposing a day or resurrection and judgement, they fought bitterly, because they
understood that if that was true, then they were wrong, and in deep trouble.
1.
O mankind! Fear your Lord. Lo! the earthquake of the Hour (of Doom) is a tremendous
thing. (3 events of a hornlike blast will first causes fright/consternation, 2nd will cause
death and collapse everything, and 3rd God will resurrect everybody in a single instant)
(there will be an earthquake like event, and some commentators say that the earth will
even turn upside down, causing the sun to rise in the west)
2.
On the day when ye behold it, every nursing mother will forget her nursling and every
pregnant one will be delivered of her burden, and thou (Muhammad) wilt see mankind as
drunken, yet they will not be drunken, but the Doom of Allah will be strong (upon them).
(the fear and confusion and change in the natural order will be so great will cause even
the most strong instincts to be cancelled and foetuses to abort. This signals the
beginning of the next world, where no such inclinations or reproduction can occur)
6.
That is because Allah, He is the Truth. Lo! He quickeneth the dead, and lo! He is Able to
do all things;
7.
And because the Hour will come, there is no doubt thereof; and because Allah will raise
those who are in the graves.
8.
And among mankind is he who disputeth concerning Allah without knowledge or
guidance or a Scripture giving light.
(this is a warning to people who do not apply or consider God in their affairs, doing as
they please, agnostic, atheistic)
9.
Turning away in pride to beguile (men) from the way of Allah. For him in this world is
ignominy, and on the Day of Resurrection We make him taste the doom of burning.
(feeling too busy or important to worry about God is warned of here)
10.
(And unto him it will be said): This is for that which thy two hands have sent before, and
because Allah is no oppressor of His slaves.
(we have come in His service for His pleasure, not our own self satiation)
11.
And among mankind is he who worshippeth Allah upon a narrow marge so that if good
befalleth him he is content therewith, but if a trial befalleth him, he falleth away utterly.
He loseth both the world and the Hereafter. That is the sheer loss.
(this is a warning to people who tie prosperity and worldly happiness to their worship,
the “God isn’t answering my prayers anymore, so He must not be real.” Or “God is
dead.”, which is false, and it is His Will and Providence that we get, and not necessarily
what we desire)(Creator, Sustainer, and Nourisher)
12.
He calleth, beside Allah, unto that which hurteth him not nor benefiteth him. That is the
far error. (gods won’t do anything)
13.
He calleth unto him whose harm is nearer than his benefit; verily an evil patron and
verily an evil friend!
(a guide or friend will provide poor companionship. The Companions of prophet SAL
(Sahaba) learned by his example. This is a core concept of propagating Islam, quality
time)
14.
Lo! Allah causeth those who believe and do good works to enter the Gardens underneath
which rivers flow. Lo! Allah doth what He intendeth.
15.
Whoso is wont to think (through envy) that Allah will not give him (Muhammad) victory
in the world and the Hereafter (and is enraged at the thought of his victory), let him
stretch a rope up to the roof (of his dwelling), and let him hang himself. Then let him
see whether his strategy dispelleth that whereat he rageth! (Pickthall)
If any think that Allah will not help him (His Apostle) in this world and the Hereafter let
him stretch out a rope to the ceiling and cut (himself) off: then let him see whether his
plan will remove that which enrages (him)! (Ali)
(this chapter is well debated. Two possibilities are shown here. The meaning is that try
by your own devices to reach heaven without God, but it will not result in anything but
failure, trying to reach heaven by tricks and mischief will end in loss. Another opinion
is that you should take a rope and hang yourself (suicide) to solve your problems. But
you will find that even though the body dies, the soul will live on until Judgement day,
and you will not be able to resolve anything by that action. Now, while you are living is
the time to act, accept faith and pray and ask God to bestow the mercy of Faith on you)
(another interpretation says that to fight Rasoolallaah (sal) is like taking a rope and
killing yourself)
16.
Thus We reveal it as plain revelations, and verily Allah guideth whom He will.
17.
Lo! those who believe (this Revelation), and those who are Jews, and the Sabaeans and
the Christians and the Magians and the idolaters--Lo! Allah will decide between them
on the Day of Resurrection. Lo! Allah is Witness over all things.
18.
‘a lam tar’anna Allaaha yasjud lahu man fiy as-samaawaati wa man fiy al-ard. Wa
ash-shams wa al-qamaru wa an-nujum wa al-jibalu wa as-shajaru wa ad-
dawaabbu wa kathir min an-naas wa kathir haqq ‘alayhi al-‘adhaabu wa man
yuhin Allaah fa maa lahu min mukrim inna Allaaha yaf’lu maa yashaa’u - sajedah
? not seeing (are) you prostration/submission to Him by the heavens and then the rarth.
And the sun and the moon and the stars/constellations and the mountains and the trees
and the animals and many from the humans and many Truth (is) upon them (but) they
fight/reject and when disgraced (by) Allaah, not with them (is) honor, indeed Allaah
works/bestows what (is) rules/wills – (sajadah)
Hast thou not seen that unto Allah payeth adoration whosoever is in the heavens and
whosoever is in the earth, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the hills, and the
trees, and the beasts, and many of mankind, while there are many unto whom the doom
is justly due. He whom Allah scorneth, there is none to give him honor. Lo! Allah doeth
what He will. (pickthall)
Seest thou not that to Allah bow down in worship all things that are in the heavens and
on earth the sun the moon the stars; the hills the trees the animals; and a great number
among mankind? But a great
number are (also) such as are fit for Punishment: and such as Allah shall disgrace none
can rise to honor: for Allah carries out all that He wills. (Ali)
