Arabic Sajedahs
17:107,108,109 – al-Isra’
Note: An encouragement to Muhammad (sal) to help keep him supported during times of
religious persecution. The story of Moses (as) is told that it may be known that all the
prophets had major difficulties establishing the message. A 3rd warning is given to
Judaism & Christians for trying to dilute and turn Islam. It was shown that proper attitude
was needed to convey the warning and live the revelation correctly. Anger, retribution,
excessive debate were deemed wrong manners to use when giving the warning.
101
And verily We gave unto Moses nine tokens, clear proofs (of Allah's
Sovereignty). Do but ask the Children of Israel how he came unto
them, then Pharaoh said unto him: Lo! I deem thee one bewitched, O
Moses.
(this is the 3rd time a clear challenge was issued to Rasoolallaah SAL. The Jewish people
were saying call forth like Moses AS [Exodus], and the answer was that even though
pharaoh had 9 in rapid succession, it didn’t affect his judgement. Through that hardened
heart, he placed circumstance on himself that he be killed and therefore sealed in grave
torment without recourse)
102
He said: In truth thou knowest that none sent down these (portents)
save the Lord of the heavens and the earth as proofs, and lo! (for my
part) I deem thee lost, O Pharaoh.
(this was publicly and manifestly proven to him, even though they were able to mimic up
until lice came as a plague on Egypt, and even his own priests were saying to him that
what they were embarrassed to admit that only a God they knew not could have done such
miracles)
103
And he wished to scare them from the land, but We drowned him and
those with him, all together.
(both Muhammad SAL and Moses were accused of sorcery. Both the pagans and pharaoh
were practicing spells to fight the message. However as we know, all that were beyond all
bounds, and hardened of heart to the opening of the One Almighty God (azwajal)
104
And We said unto the Children of Israel after him: Dwell in the land;
but when the promise of the Hereafter cometh to pass we shall bring
you as a crowd gathered out of various nations.
(although believers, including Israel, were subjected to banishment by pagan force, God
turned the circumstances against paganism, and they perished and locked into grave
torment)
105
With truth have We sent it down, and with truth hath it descended.
And We have sent thee as naught else save a bearer of good tidings
and a warner.
(a prophets job is to neither to intercede personally or produce miracles to prove the
message. They were just to convey and warn)
106
And (it is) a Quran that We have divided, that thou mayest recite it
unto mankind at intervals, and We have revealed it by (successive)
revelation.
(to give fair warning and proper instruction, time was ordained to spread the revelation
over gradual periods of time in succession. Rasoolallaah SAL was forbearing while the
results were taking effect. Revelations also came to encourage Rasoolallaah, and to
explain he was not different than other prophets. The story of Moses and the family of
Imran (Amram) were used repeatedly to convey monotheism was not new, nor the
suffering that comes from the conveyance of the message)
107
Qul ‘aaminoon bihi aw laa yu’minoon inna al-ladheena uwtu al-‘ilma min qablihi
idhaayut liyaa ‘alayhim yakhirruuna li al-adhqaani sujjudan
Say: believe in Him or not believing, indeed the ones obtaining knowledge from
closeness (to) Him – announcing/proclaiming with them drooping/yeilding (are)
consummed/drowned in prostration/submission
Say: Believe therein or believe not, lo! those who were given
knowledge before it, when it is read unto them, fall down prostrate on
their faces, adoring,
108
wa subhaana Rabbinaa in kaana wadu’ Rabbina lama af’uulaan
and your praises (to) your LORD (are) a promise in what (was) worked
Saying: Glory to our Lord! Verily the promise of our Lord must be
fulfilled.
109
wa yakhirroon li al-adhqaani yabkoona wa yazeedu hum khushuu’an
and droop/bend in submission/absorbsion weeping/mourning and increase/build they
humility/humbleness – (prostration)
They fall down on their faces, weeping, and it increaseth humility in
them. - (Prostration)
(when the message takes effect and freedom from unbelief comes, it has a profound
effect on their actions and their inner spirituality. The establishment of Truth in men
cause them to both physically prostrate and clean the hearts desire to conform and
submit; a prostration)
110
Say (unto mankind): Cry unto Allah, or cry unto the Beneficent (Rahmaan), unto
whichsoever ye cry (it is the same). His are the most beautiful names.
And thou (Muhammad), be not loud voiced in thy worship nor yet silent therein, but
follow a way between.
(pagans would gather to throw stones and voice insults during prayer, so it was revealed
that prayer and recitation not to be loud, but in a modest voice. Also the pagans rejected
Rahmaan as a name for deity. It was not a concept they embraced, being evil & vindictive)
111
And say: Praise be to Allah, Who hath not taken unto Himself a son,
and Who hath no partner in the Sovereignty, nor hath He any
protecting friend through dependence. And magnify Him with all
magnificence.
(the pagans looked to the ignorance that Christianity innovated. Rasoolallaah SAL
conveyed that all except the One God has power to do anything, and he needs no partners
or facilitators to move)
