Arabic Sajedahs
13:15 - Ra’d - Thunder
Note: An Admonition to Mecca about the lawless and severity of the society, and the
loss of human values towards life and fair treatment of people. A plea for proper
government and justice for tribal and pagan traits. A warning to pagans that there is an
afterlife, so actions will have consequences. God gives many signs to reinforce His
sovernty over the earth.
1. Alif. Lam. Mim. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture. That which is revealed unto
thee from thy Lord is the Truth, but most of mankind believe not.
(First – God is One, Judgement day, Rasoolallaah was receiving, not innovating.)
2. Allah it is who raised up the heavens without visible supports, then mounted the
Throne, and compelled the sun and the moon to be of service, each runneth unto an
appointed term; He ordereth the course; He detaileth the revelations, that haply ye may
be certain of the meeting with your Lord.
(The message was pointing out that there is conformity in the sun and moon, with
particular and repeatable cycles and meanings.)
3. And He it is who spread out the earth and placed therein firm hills and flowing
streams, and of all fruits be placed therein two spouses (male and female). He covereth
the night with the day. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who take thought.
(Again it is pointed out that certain things, like male and female and reproduction and
the cycles of working day and resting night are manifest throughout the creation, and is
ordered and in season.)
4. And in the Earth are neighboring tracts, vineyards and ploughed lands, and date palms,
like and unlike, which are watered with one water. And We have made some of them to
excel others in fruit. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who have sense.
(It is pointed out that there are no 2 things created exactly alike.)
5. And if thou wonderest, then wondrous is their saying: When we are dust, are we then
forsooth (to be raised) in a new creation? Such are they who disbelieve in their Lord;
such have carcans on their necks; such are rightful owners of the Fire, they will abide
therein.
(This was a major difference in the pagan and monotheistic religions, in that there will
be a recreation and judgement. The pagans bitterly opposed this idea because they didn’t
want to abide by any rule of Truth or the prospect of a continuing existence.)
6. And they bid thee hasten on the evil rather than the good, when exemplary
punishments have indeed occurred before them. But lo! thy Lord is rich in pardon for
mankind despite their wrong, and lo! thy Lord is strong in punishment!
(The pagans saw that the punishment promised was not seeming to come as was told in
the message. So they attempted to draw Rasoolallaah (sal) into debate, not perceiving
that upon each denial, their anger, ignorance and hopelessness was increasing. By
comparison, the pagans did not perceive the profound changes toward good, success,
strength and faith that the companions were accruing. The Pagans were jealous of these
external events and blind to the profound peace and intellegence that was exibited by
Rasoolallaah (sal). When asked of Rasoolallaah’s nature, it was said of him that he
lived as the Qur’an was like, inside and outside)
7. Those who disbelieve say: If only some portent were sent down upon him from his
Lord! Thou art a warner only, and for every folk a guide.
(Rasoolallaah (sal) was told that there was a group of people that would never accept
any of his message. For these people he SAL was released from any personal
responsibility. His (sal) job for those people was just to warn.)
8. Allah knoweth that which every female beareth and that which the wombs absorb and
that which they grow. And everything with Him is measured.
9. He is the Knower of the invisible and the visible, the Great, the High Exalted.
(This was shown to explain that just because you can’t directly see it or touch it does
not mean that God doesn’t exist. There is a vast difference between the Creators ways
and the creations ways, a higher Reality. He has abilities that we can not understand.
(Kibryya, ‘Aliyya, & Aziziyya, Qadiriyya))
10. Alike of you is he who hideth the saying and he who noiseth it abroad, he who
lurketh in the night and he who goeth freely in the daytime.
(One is being witnessed by a multitude of witnesses , like angels appointed by Allaah.
No matter how you might hide or boldly boast, the content and intension of your
actions are being recorded.)
11. For him are angels ranged before him and behind him who guard him by Allah's
command. Lo! Allah changeth not the condition of a folk until they (first) change that
which is in their hearts; and if Allah willeth misfortune for a folk there is none that can
repel it, nor have they a defender beside Him.
(This is the verse that is translated oddly. “condition” is the word Hayyat and the second
one “what is in their hearts is” is nafs. This is to say that you won’t see Life until you
understand how to disregaurd your lower self, your nafs amara bi su (satanic), or nafs
amara bi suuwa.).
12. He it is Who showeth you the lightning, a fear and a hope, and raiseth the heavy
clouds. (Pagans just called it a nature sound, but the faithful recognized the power and
relationship that first comes the light, then comes the sound. This is a Truth that Allah
operates the creation on, that there is an order to revealation, and that is first comes
Light of Truth, and that is interpreted into a vibration that conveys a meaning, in this
case, power or might. (qadir & aziz)
13. The thunder hymneth His praise and (so do) the angels for awe of Him. He
launcheth the thunder bolts and smiteth with them whom He will while they dispute (in
doubt) concerning Allah, and He is mighty in wrath.
(The inner witness fear or concern during a storm. These are the angels reacting to the
Reality that they are subject to God, and at any time He could show mighty force, and
their state could be over, that is, Dead.)
14. Unto Him is the real prayer. Those unto whom they pray beside Allah respond to
them not at all, save as (if the response to) one who stretcheth forth his hands toward
water (asking) that it may come unto his mouth, and it will never reach it. The prayer of
disbelievers goeth (far) astray.
(This is a question to the pagans asking; how do you expect to get a response from
something you yourself fashioned? Even though they were sincere, they never received
because of this falsehood. If you ask from God you will get a response, but when you
ask from creation, it will fall short of any Life (Hayyat). The pagans used to fashion
date gods, then eat them, and when they realized how foolish this was they were
ashamed and amazed at how ignorant they were before Islam. They were far from the
mark in sin.)
15.
wa Allaahi yasjudud man fiy as-samaawati wa al-’ard taw’a wa karhaan
zhilaaluluhuma bi al-ghuduwwu wa al-aslaal.
and (to) Allaah (they) prostrate/submit from in the heavens and the earth, obeying and
abhorring (alike)(as do) shadows/shade in morning and late afternoon.
And unto Allah falleth prostrate whosoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or
unwillingly, as do their shadows in the morning and the evening hours. He has power to
enforce His rule over the creation, and they prostrate to Him.
Commentary:
Here is sajdah #2 and its an early Meccan surat. No Jewish or Christian themes here,
like in #7 when he SAL was in Yathrib. Jews were sent there because they knew the last
one would come at that location, and there is a deep theme of jealousy and
disappointment then anger if you study that one out in the sirat ar-rasoolallaah (the
story of his SAL lifes circumstances).
But that was a deeply troubled city, and that is why he SAL was asked to go there
(superficial) as a governor, and he SAL had to make them bind by oath to stop killing
and abide by some simple rules, which of course many broke that covenant. But that is a
different story of how the advisary persuaded the Jewish population to break the oath.
And the main stress was to fight to protect Yathrib. The adversary took the good in them
and turned it to treachery and greed and lies.
This sajdah is strictly about looking clearly at the nature of creation and it obeys
without question and we humans are the only exception, as we see only our selfish side,
also known as the ego.
The sajdah is basically about 2 things, the resurrection (from monotheism) and that God
had mighty power to do as he wants, not man made.
It was this "governor" that Muhammad SAL was forced to accept, a sajadah. This is what
I believe anyway. He was forced by Jibra'el to accept this Iman.
From Isaiah AS, it was the angel that brought a coal from the alter and touched his lips,
and from that point forward he was no longer a priest doing a mundane job, but was able
to perceive the full process from when the Light comes through speaking and acting
with the full capability of prophethood.
In the Qur'an he was simply pointing to nature and to men and sorting those that had
ability for Iman from those that would be deaf, dumb and blind and would live like
animals and never receive anything. Those he SAL simply and with detachment, warned.
He SAL only had to warn, and it was painful to him SAL as I said there some in his
immediate family he had to accept as lost forever.
An example was Abu Lahab (father of the flames) who was his cousin and he and his
wife constantly were making life difficult for him SAL, so the Surat al-Lahab came to
make certain to him that even his family wasn't exempt.
Contrast if you will 'Ali with Abu Lahab. Both were cousins. One was the first male
believer, as Khadijah was very first, and then Abu Lahab was 1st to fight.
Also I was reading Torah where Isra'el (Jacob AS) blessed his 12 sons in Egypt, and
there vast differences in how he blessed each one. Again a proof that it isn't about
families, but what the potential of the heart is that counts.
