Arabic Sajedahs
96:19 al-Alaq - a Clinging Mass - a Clot of Blood
Note: The first sajedah and revelation that came in the cave, Jabbal Nur. Explains many
things about how dominant God is over creation, and how everything we are is made and
controlled by God. Blazing poetry about many issues sets the tone for the message.
1.
Read: In the name of thy Lord who createth,
(Literally Recite. Qari’a the Root word of the Qura’n)
2.
Createth man from a clot.
(a clinging mass, attached at a point, sucking blood. leach like)
3.
Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous,
(read from the book, and know that this recitation is bountiful –kereem)
4.
Who teacheth by the pen,
(an authentic hadith says that the blood of a scholar is holier that the blood of a mayrter)
5.
Teacheth man that which be knew not.
(a story says that God taught a child everything in Awwal but at the moment of birth,
God commands that the angel erase all but basic instinct. There are some notable
exceptions, like Jesus AS who spoke as a baby to defend his mother and to proclaim he
was abdullaah – serving God only)
6.
Nay, but verily man is rebellious
(not knowing, he feels a sense of independence and self will, rejecting revelation)
7.
That he thinketh himself independent!
(God was stating that he is in control and independence is an illusion of ego)
8.
Lo! unto thy Lord is the return.
(the first time that the Judgement day and resurrection were said to come from
Rasoolallaah SAL. A concept that the Pagans did not accept, and it wasn’t part of their
religion, any kind of return)
9.
Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth
(a reference to Abu Jahil and his wife who did shameful things to the Prophet SAL and
those who were joining Islam)
10.
A slave when he prayeth?
(Rasoolallaah SAL was loving/serving, receiving his strength and guidance from God)
11.
Hast thou seen if he (relieth) on the guidance (of Allah)
(a reference to how Rasoolallaah (sal) adjusted as revelation came)
12.
Or enjoineth piety?
(Rasoolallaah SAL was only to give the message, asking not insisting)
13.
Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is
froward?
(Rasoolallaah SAL was enjoined not to argue or debate or get angry when people
rejected his message, yet it is this very quality of being humble and constant that is
creditted with the rapid spread of Islam)
14.
Is he then unaware that Allah seeth?
(again Abu Jahal could not comprehend)
15.
Nay, but if he cease not, We will seize him by the
forelock—
(hobbled like a camel, helpless to move, but just make noise)
16.
The lying, sinful forelock--
17.
Then let him call upon his henchmen!
(so when he called on his pagan helpers)
18.
We will call the guards of hell.
(then a promise from God to provide divine protection)
19.
kallaa laa tuti'hu wa usjudu wa iqtarib - sajadah
then no, don’t pay attention (to) him (his ways),
and prostrate and draw near (to God)
Nay! Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and
draw near (unto Allah). (Pickthall)
Nay heed him not: but bow down in adoration and bring
thyself the closer (to Allaah) (Ali)
(Abu Jahl was always trying to refute the Message through argument, hateful actions,
and finally war)
