84:21 – al-Inshiqaaq – The Bursting Asunder

Note: Affirmation that created things are not eternal, and in a future time there will be
and end to all of these signs and existences. God is the only eternal unchanging one, and
all signs point to that reality. Again a refutation of pagan belief that no afterlife exists.

1.
When the heaven is split asunder
(this crosses the concept that the heavens are god, and they cam be de constructed)

2.
And attentive to her Lord in fear,
(the heavens tend to anything that God wills, is highest esteem/fear of His power)

3.
And when the earth is spread out
(the earth will open and discharge everything)

4.
And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty
(exposing all events that occurred on her, being dissolved into a prior reality)

5.
And attentive to her Lord in fear!
(again in total submission awaiting His commands in total submission/fear)

6.
Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work
which thou wilt meet (in His presence).
(success is not reckoned by material only, but by the qualities of the inner life. Those
that understand that and work a work to God will meet that success)

7.
Then whoso is given his account in his right hand
(implying unbound, free to accept the reward in any hand, presumably the right)

8.
He truly will receive an easy reckoning

9.
And will return unto his folk in joy.
(family here means larger than immediate)

10.
But whoso is given his account behind his back,
(assuming being tied up and bound, the only way to receive his account is behind him)

11.
He surely will invoke destruction
(these will be captive to punishment)

12.
And be thrown to scorching fire.

13.
He verily lived joyous with his folk,
(tables will be turned, those that were attentive will be set free)

14.
He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah).
(pagans believed that no afterlife would ever occur)

15.
Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him!

16.
Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset,
(pagans worshipped the sun, so swearing by that it fades, declaration of it’s lack of
divinity is sworn, in fact that all created things change, and evolve, die)

17.
And by the night and all that it enshroudeth,
(a declaration that as all collect at night, as time passes the totality of everything will be
collected, quite naturally)

18.
And by the moon when she is at the full,
(again a swearing by the fact that not only does the moon wax and wain. Rise and set. It
also progresses across the horizon)

19.
That ye shall journey on from plane to plane.
(again a swearing that everything has a start and an end and different every time)

20.
What aileth them, then, that they believe not
(people are asked why they don’t accept while there is time)

21.
wa idhaa qur’aa alayhimu al-qur’aanu, laa yusjuduun – sajadah

and when recited upon them the Qur’an, (they do) not prostrate/subect - Prostration

And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)?
(why do they deny all these signs? It inconceivable to understand or submit in
prostration)

22.
Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny;
(they can’t see or accept their inner being is open to God’s vision)

23.
and Allah knoweth best what they are hiding.

24.
So give them tidings of a painful doom,

25.
Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a
reward unfailing.
