Indeed  the judgement     possessed (by) God (is) the submission (to Him)

wa maa  akhtalafa  al-ladheena uutuu  ul-kitaaaba  illaa  mim  ba^di  maa
and not differing (were) the ones given the book except then after what

came (to) them (of) the divine knowledge (then) envy (came) between themselves

and if you disbelieve in God's signs then indeed God (is) fast (in) the reckoning

19.
fa in  haaajjooka  fa qul  aslamtu  wajhiya  li llaaahi

and if you follow (you submit too).  and say upon the ones given the book

wa  al-ummiyyeena  a^aslamtum.
and the unlearned - ? (will you) submit

fa in aslamuu  fa qadi  ahtadau
then if (they) submit then surely (they are) guided

wa in tawallau  fa inna maaa  ^alayka  al-balaaaghu.
and if (they) do then indeed upon them (is) the good message

wa  allaaahu  baseerum  bil-^ibaadi
and God (is) divinely seeing in the worshipping servants

20.
Inna al-latheena yakfuroona bi aayaati Allaahi
Verily, the ones covering/refuting in the signs of God

Wa yaqtuloona an-nabiyyeena bi ghayri haqqin
And kill our Prophets, by separating (from) Truth

Wa yaqtuloona al-latheena yamuroona bi al-qisti min an-naasi
And kill the ones ruling/commanding by the fairness among people

fa bashshirhum bi ^adhabin aleemin
Then inform them by punishment, grievous.

This particular ayat was used by my Shaykh to explain that people
will not deviate from God until they get a miracle, then they will
follow the miracle and the excitement, forsaking faith in the single
Power of God. If you ask about this, they will fight any return to
God and they prefer to stay preoccupied.
Although the religions were pure in the first generations of
followers, as time passed the true meanings were lost.

They did not deviate until
miracles came, then they
became contentious in jealousy.
