The Old Farmer and the Talking Sheep
786
as-salaam 'alaykum.
This is a story about a real man who was a luckless farmer.
The story attempts to explain what happened to him, and some of the comments he used to make.
The Bible reference was how he used to try to explain. I didn't understand him when I was young.

The Old Farmer and the Talking Sheep
There was an old farmer who was very religious. He had his land and he had his family
and he had hopes for all of that to prosper. There was a church close by, and he went to
that place and he made prayer to God to prosper his efforts. As time went on he also
became quite active in this place of worship. He liked it because it was fun and there
was so much excitement there. People spoke in angelic prophecy and there were
miracles. The people dressed up in their suits in sartorial splendor, and people also
competed with each other to see who had the best suit of clothes. He had so much fun.
He came and did extra prayers often, and that was fun too. Everyone there was saying
God was so good for giving them what they asked for and allowing them to have so
much fun in the process.

Everybody was praising God so they could have what they wanted, and to feel free
from conscience during all the rest of the week. All the books and the commentaries
were set up to say: “If you do this, then you will get that.” This was a satisfactory
situation for a few years for the old farmer.

It was all given in such a way, he would say,  that it was like using a list to go to the
supermarket. “Lets see, 2 cans of prosperity, 3 cans of health, 2 cans of fun, 4 bags of
good sex, 2 new cars, a new house, and what else do we need? Oh yes, plenty of money
and an easy good job too.  After all, God has promised this, hasn’t He? Isn’t that what
the books say? It makes sense to me. "Blab it and grab" it and put it on God’s tab. OK?”

So the years passed and the farmer was looking at things carefully. There was a fight in
the church over money, so the church split apart. The selling price of grain and
animals went down, so he was almost bankrupt on his farm. His children went away and
wouldn’t even call, except maybe on holidays. He used to do his chores in 2 hours, but
now it took 4 hours to do the same thing. Because he had impotency, his wife left him
for another man. Even his house which he had built just perfect was falling apart and
costing him money. He was looking at all the pictures of the days when he was young,
and he cried over that because he was old, and he missed all the fun. That was the state
he was in, just looking at all of this with amazement and nostalgia. For all the he had
“blabbed”, he had “grabbed” nothing permanent.

The people in the church just laughed and said you just don’t have enough faith. Hear,
read the holy book again, you will get faith. But the farmer shook his head, because he
did have faith deep in his heart, and he knew that he knew. He also knew as a farmer, if
you make a mistake, you don’t keep making the same mistake over and over again on
purpose. If you plant the wrong seed, you don’t again next year, repeat the same
planting. You figure what you did wrong and fix it.

One day he was looking at his animals with a kindness he didn’t have before. He
noticed they were at ease and they faced difficulties with far more ease that he did.
Even pain of death was but a momentary sadness for them. No matter what happened,
he saw that it didn’t last for a long time, nor did they hold a grudge. They had qualities
of persona that he didn’t see in people. In a way they were better than people.

He saw the birds get their food without having to plant and grow it. He saw the sheep
graze on the grass that was just growing by itself everywhere. The chickens found bugs
and seeds too small for him to even see. Even the bugs that seemed to be in hell were
receiving small molecular kinds of food. He read in a book that even viruses had an
ability & intelligence to find their food. He was wondering, how small that food would
be, if the virus takes an electron microscope to be seen. How small must that food be?

Even the plants seemed to have this as well. They came, flowered, seeded, and died.
Nobody was crying over that. Yet he began to see how big this planet must be, and how
much food, water, and air must be coming to satisfy all the mouths that were feeding
on their food. Everywhere it seemed that everything was receiving without needing to
bother about a whole lot of thinking. To his surprise, they didn’t even need a book to
tell them what to do. They just knew what to do. He noticed that even his lambs stood
up after only ten or fifteen minutes of time. The grass snakes even began to bite
immediately after coming out of the egg. They didn't need to go to school for that.
What kind of knowledge is this? He would talk like that.

Then one of his sheep began to speak to him. It was a special kind of speech. It was his
pet sheep, and that very sheep was saying things to him. Farmers all know that animals
talk to each other, but it is rare to find one that will speak to you, as they are afraid of
men in general.

The sheep is speaking. “Why are you sad? What has caused your sadness? What did
you do that is causing this shadow in your soul? Perhaps you are attached to something
unnatural. I have lost my wife. You killed her last fall for your food. You took my
children too. You cut all the plants while they were still alive, and you took their
children in the field. All the chickens cried everyday when you took their eggs. You
have stolen everything from us except our food. If we are not sad over all of that, why
is this matter such a big thing for you? Why are you are so sad and concerned? It is
God that brought us, and it is God that sustains us, and it is God that will take us back.
We don’t find faults with that matter. So what is your problem?

The farmer says to his sheep: “I don’t think that I understand what reality is. I certainly
don’t understand with the ease you have. All my life I have lived by God’s promises,
yet everything is lost to me now. I just find no peace in this, nor do I love God because
of this matter. I don’t understand what God is doing. How can it be that the promises
that are professed say one thing, and the actual experience is something quite
different. It is unfair. Why don’t the books that tell God’s words explain what reality is
when you experience it? I’m lost and sad, and I have lost hope. Maybe what people say
about God being “dead” is correct. What men promise should happen and what actually
happens are two different things. I don’t understand this, and I think God is like a joke,
and I'm very tired of all of this.”

Then the sheep answers: “You don’t understand because you have not looked at the
proper book. The book of reality is speaking to you from everywhere. It is a special
book that talks to you. You don’t have to read anything, just listen. You don’t have to
pay money or travel to any special place to understand the words that are echoing from
this book. We understand this book because we are controlled by it. It is a book that
neither causes happiness or sadness. We know that, and that is why we don’t keep
happiness or sadness as our own, like a possession or a promise. When we experience
sadness or death, it passes quickly. We remember God in that way. When we are happy
it also passes quickly, and we don’t care to keep that as a memory. We are not
nostalgic or sentimental over things. We know when we are happy that very soon it
will be time to be sad again. There is no hope in that.

You have to remember the One that makes happiness and sadness. We don’t look at
the circumstances and evaluate God by circumstance. What He does is constant all the
time as change. When God is changing everything all the time, how can you pretend to
stop time and say; this is it, or that is it. No. We animals see God as Power and
constant in the Reality that things always change. He makes things change, so we don’t
get hung up over that. We just let it happen naturally, and we adjust to these changes as
they come. You have it backwards. For this world change is the constant. You are
pretending you are not in this world, and thinking that if you believe that with fervor, it
will become true. You better look like we do, and focus on each moment. What comes
later will take care of itself. Even after death there is no promise that change will not
take place. If you look, everything is changing before your eyes, and the only constant
is that a Power is making that happen.

We are seeing God in our food and in our water and in the air we breath. That Reality
is continually in force. You should think about this. You too are in this Reality, but
you are not aware of it. You are thinking about something different, taking Reality for
granted. It seems that this matter is what is causing you the pain. If you would look
with our eyes, it will not look like a joke to you. Reality is supporting everything.
Perhaps you should reflect on that a little. Reality is in what is given to you as Life,
and not what is written down in a book somewhere as a promise or recollection. Our
church is our house where we live, because that is where our life, our food, comes
every day. We don’t need to gather in another place to know Reality. Reality is in
every breath we have. It is like that for you too, if you would think about it. Maybe if
you accept that, you will not think you are cheated and God is some kind of joke. Do
like we do. By the time the sun goes down, we have forgotten and forgiven everything
that happened in that day. So the next day, we rise refreshed, and we know that even if
we should die before the day ends, we will remain alive in other ways. If you hear from
Reality, you will know this for certain.”

Then the old farmer looked at all this. He took his books and put them on the shelf. He
stopped worrying about his children and his house so much. He studied as the sheep
had said, by looking at how reality life came to each creation. He saw this was the law
of life. He saw the various ways that creations had prayer to God in their own way, and
he saw that this was the law, and the Ruler over what comes naturally as change.

As time passed he too was approaching the day that he would leave this life behind.
Strangely he reflected on how much he had changed, and how peaceful and fulfilled he
felt.
As his time came he hobbled out to his old sheep. The old farmer said:
“ My time has
come now. Thank you for telling me what Reality was like. I know now how great God
is, and it is not just words. I have seen even how the sun and the moon are following
Reality, just as you described. You have been such a good sheep for me. There is one
last thing though. How is it that you, a sheep, has so much knowledge? All these years
I have been listening, but your talking is not natural for a sheep. You must explain this
to me before my final breath passes.”

Then the sheep said: “Good, you are seeing now, finally. It’s true, I’m not a real sheep.
I am an angel that was sent to you so you could understand. Because the pen wrote that
you would have a human destiny, it was necessary for me to come here and do this
duty.”

So in a breath, the Angel of the LORD appeared out of the form of the sheep into a
Light form. Then other angels came and ministered to the needs of the man, and he
was taken, that very hour, to the place God had destined for him. To this day, people
don’t raise sheep in that section of land, for the various angels took the form of sheep
that had luminous eyes and wool, and were said to speak.

So the people had fear of the crazy man that talked to sheep. They said it was satanic
because they couldn’t find any reference in their books that said what to do in the case
of a talking animal. Because they couldn’t understand, they reacted with fear, and tried
to suppress the lessons that the man brought in his lifetime. He became the crazy man
in the old house down the road. It was a joke to them and the only time he was thought
of was when somebody died, but nobody dared talk publicly about it. Yet in his last
writing of his will, he was talking about his sheep as if they were pets.

Romans 1:19-32
19: ……for the Truth about God is manifestly shown (in them).
20: From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and
everything that God made.
They can clearly see His invisible qualities, His eternal power, and His divine
nature,
(from the examples)(by living life itself) so they have no valid excuse what-soever,
for not knowing God.
21:Yes, they knew of God, but they wouldn’t worship Him as God, or even give Him
thanks.
So they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like (idolatry of spirit).
The result was that their minds became dark and confused (ignorant/heedless).
22: Claiming to be wise, they became fools instead (scientific).

25: Instead of believing what they knew was the Truth, they doggedly chose to
believe lies (on purpose).
So they chose to worship the things God created instead of the Creator Himself,
Who is to be praised forever. Amen.
28: When they refused to acknowledge God, He abandoned them to their evil
minds and let them do things that should never be done.
29: Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, envy, murder,
fighting deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are haters of God and
back stabbers, insolent, prideful, and boastful.
30: They refuse to understand, break their promises, and are heartless and
unforgiving.
