Why Do We Perform the Salawats After Talks & Prayers?
7/15/83 - A question is asked on saying the salawaats to Muhammad (SAL)

Question: What is the meaning of sall allaahu ‘ala Muhammad (SAL), and why do we say it at the
end of meetings and prayers? (Susan)

Answer: (Bawa Muhayaddeen) You won’t understand if I tell you, until the end of the world. You
can’t finish explaining how amazing that is. You can’t finish explaining it’s glory. There is so much
meaning to that. So you get so many blessings from doing that. It’s incredible how many blessings
you get.

What that is, is part of the praise of God and his representatives. You give praise to the angels, the
celestial beings, the prophets. And they resonate with that sound when you do it. That same salaam
that comes from your mouth will be said at the same time by the angels.”

God has said: “If you say it once, I’ll say it 10 times. I’ll give you that salaam 10 times. If you speak
of Me once, if you speak of Me and my Rasool once, I will speak of you 10 times. I will call your
name 10 times.”

There is an amazing amount of grace in that. Allaah has said that. If you have Imaan trust, that is the
first thing you must say. That is the first salaat. You must say that. The salaam and the salawaat, on
the Rasool (sal), fulfilling your soul, for your life and your death.

Anathi Muhammad, Athi Muhammad; the Muhammad that existed before Athi in Anathi. And then
after Athi there was Awwal Muhammad, Hayaat Muhammad, and then Anna Muhammad, and
Ahamad which is the heart, and Muhammad which is the face, Nur Muhammad, and Allaah
Muhammad.

Those 9 Muhammads have been pointed out to us by Allaah. That is how He shows His
completeness, holiness. They all emerged from Him. The Siffat, the Miracles (names). Ever thing
came from that.  Adam and Hawwa, all the creations dawned from that. And then, then, until the
end, until the end of the last prophet. The Nur, the Purity, the Perfection in Allaah. That is what we
speak about when you say that.

There is a fragrance in the mouth of one who says that, but there is a smell of hell in the mouth of
people who don’t say that. People who do say that have the fragrance of the rose in their mouths,
and the smell of castouri , the most beautiful scent, in their hearts. Those who don’t say it have hell
inside.

It’s very glorious. I don’t know how to describe it too much. I can tell you a little about it. I forget.
Not much is coming. Ask Brother Dick (our Imaam, and he is deferring back to Bawa)…….

Emergence of Nur emerged as Allaah gave Rasoolallah (SAL) the world into his trust to reconcile it
back to Himself.

Allaah said: “Yaa Muhammad; without You (sal) I would not have created anything.”

For both the Beginning and the End, Islaam came in the form of unity through Muhammad (which
has) these 9 meanings.

    1. Anaathi Muhammad un-manifest, silent – ummiy - howd
    2. Aathi Muhammad – light emerged forming essence - dhat
    3. Awwal Muhammad – emergence of existence - wujood
    4. Hayaat Muhammad – souls to sustain lives came - ruh
    5. Anna Muhammad – nourishment of elemental life - rizq
    6. Ahamad – emergence of the heart, qalb – beauty - purity
    7. Muhammadcountenance upon encountering the qalb – the wajh,
affrontation – conscience derived from qalb
    8. Nur Muhammadplenitude of wisdom seeing - kursi
    9. Allah Muhammad – pretext of form, connected to  formlessness, Allaah
Muhammad is shown as an example so God’s hidden power can be known
by the example, which can be seen. The Arsh.

The 9 openings of body are examples. Chest is qalb. Forehead is kursh. Top of head is open to
Allaah – arsh. Like that there are meanings given through the example of the body, for the soul.
