Huu Door
I am so self-sufficient (qayyum) that I am in no need
of having an associate (mushrik). Thus he who does
an action for someone else's sake as Mine will have
that action renounced by Me to him whom he
associated with Me.

A Fish Looks for Water
786

Of course you can want God, but then it's still "me and He".
Reality is a unity, no separation, so there is no beholder and beholded.
There is only beholding. - Allaahu Akbar.

The fish Looks for Water
There was a fish who was asking; "what is water"?
He was crying; "I want the water. I want the water"?
So the fish started to look around.
As he looked he was looking for the water.
He traveled all around the sea looking in every corner.
Finally he came to the shore.
A fisherman was netting fish there and he caught the fish.
The fish was up on the shore gasping, bruised, and scared.
It was like hell, so hot, so dry, so different.
The fish lamented; “I was only looking for water."
The fisherman heard his prayer and was filled with wonder.
He said; “You foolish fish, you were in the sea. What are you saying"?
The fish said; “Give me the water, don't let me die before I see the water."
The fisherman laughed “You were in the sea, you dumb fish."
The fish said; “No, the sea was always there. I was born in the sea. I want the water,"
The fisherman said; “I’ll put you in the holding net, if you don't see the water, then you
will become the fish for my curry tonight."
Dry, hot, bruised, scared, confused, betrayed, the fish agreed.
As he entered the sea again, he felt moisture, he was cool, he could breath again.
He saw that there was light, sand, corals, other fish, and much to his surprise, water was
there. It had always been there. Although there were many other things, water was the
main thing that made the sea, the sea.
The fisherman asked; “Did you find the water yet? Or do you want to be my dinner?"
The fish said; “Please release me. I understand now. What I thought was the sea was really
the water. I just have to accept that not everything in the sea is water. Now I know how to
tell what is water and what is something else. Because I couldn't see, I thought there was
no water in the sea. Now I see the water everywhere."
The fisherman said; “Yes, I'll let you go, but if you ever take the water for granted again,
and forget that just because it is always there, it's not important, I'll catch you again and
make you into a curry. Don't let familiarity breed contempt, or you will lose your life."
