7. Plurals - Sound and Form

There are 2 kinds of plurals:
Sound plurals = aXYaZZa = af^alla
Form plurals = XaYaZZa = fa^alla

There is an easy example – prophets.

  • Anbiyya – a sound plural
  • Nabuwwa – a grammatical form plural
  • The root is (n-b-y) or (n-b-w) another secret, as often waw and yaa are
    interchangeable, as you see here.
  • The basic word for prophet is nabiy
  • Again the definite is an-nabiy
  • This is the shaddah assimilation of the lam by the nun.
  • It’s not al-nabiy, but an-nabiy, as the nun is a moon letter
  • Nuwr – anwar – a light, lights – sound (n-w-r)
  • Sahab – as~hab – companion, companions - sound
  • Kafir – kafireen – a disbeliever, disbelievers – form

Also has a prolonging
yaa - een
