al-Baqara: 1-7
1. B’ismi Illaah ir-Rahmaan ir-Raheem.
2. Alif laaam meeem
Mystical meanings, ‘alim, (“a-l-m) knowledge preserved
3. Dhalik al-kitaab laa rayba fiy hi, hudaa li il-muttaqiym.
This (is) the book, no doubt in her, guide with the upstanding
(k-t-b)= writing/manuscript, (r-y-b)= doubt, (h-d-y)= guidedence
(q-y-m)= stand/erect, mutta means excelling, continuing (form plural)
4. Al-ladhiyna yu’minuwna bi il-ghayb
The ones we (are) believing we, in the unseen/secret
(‘a-m-n)=faith, (gh-y-b)= unseen
Wa yuqiymuwna as-salawt
And stand upright we (in) the prayer/intercession
(q-y-m)= stand, (s-l-w)=prayers - yuqiym = verb, stand/persevere
Wa mim maa razaqnaa hum yunfiquwna
And from what provision we (to) you spend/give we
(r-z-q)= food/provision. (n-f-q)=lay out, spend, give
5. wa al-ladhiyna yu’minuwna bi maa unzila ‘alayk
and the ones we (are) believing we, in what decended/revealed You
(n-z-l)= descend/show hidden (yu’minuwn = verb – believe we)
wa maa unzila min qablika
and what descended from a ahead/before/benediction, us
(q-b-l)= before, an obscure meaning, commonly translated reception, but that is because
that is the gathering before the real meeting. Qibla refers to the point before you in
prayers, the Kaba’ (cube). The benediction comes before the service.
wa bi al-aakhirati huwa yuwqinuwna
and in the end, His, certain/sure we (are)
(y-q-n)= certainty, in emphatic form plural yuwqinuw = certainties
6. Uwlaa’ika ‘alaa hudaa min(r) Rabbihim
These you (are) upon, a guidance from LORD theirs
Written min, said mir, because of assimilation tawasil
Wa uwlaa’ika huwa al-muflihuwn
And these they (are) the successful
(f-l-h)= success/understanding/enduring
7. Inna al-ladhiyna kafaruwn sawaa’u ‘alayhim
Surely the ones unbelievers alike/equal upon them
(s-w-‘a)= equal/alike/same – (k-f-r)=plural, coverers, surpressors
andharthum am lam tundhir hum laa yu’minuwn
if warned they, then not warned they no believing
(n-dh-r-)= warn/advise
andhart= intensive, big warning – tundhir=warning verb
8. Khatama Allaahu ‘alaa quluwbihim wa ‘alaa sam’ihim.
Closed/sealed God, He (is) upon hearts theirs and upon hearing theirs
(q-l-b)= heart/inner chooser/motivation
(s-m-‘a)= hear/perceive
wa absaarihim ghashaawa
and eyes theirs, covered/obscured
(b-s-r)= seeing, plural eye (seeing but not understanding internally)
(gh-sh-w)= covered – in the sense of being prevented to know
wa la hum ‘adhaabun ‘azhiymun
and in them a punishment, a tremendous
(‘a-dh-b)=punishment/impediment/calamity
(‘a-zh-m)= tremendous/unbreakeable/strong
commentators say deaf, blind, and dumb, not in a physical sense, but not able to
understand, be convinced in heart, or able to present a prayer.
