Introduction to Hajj - History of the Bekka Valley
Adam & Eve
7:20,21 - 7:33
I quote Anis Daud Matthews; A Guide for Hajj and Umra; Kazi Publications; Pakistan; 1979.
--------------------------
"The history of the ceremonies of Hajj goes back to the beginning of time for man on the earth, and will go on until the end of time. First, Adam and Eve (as) were asked to leave Paradise and descend to the earth, and they were asked to make a shrine on the earth similar to the one in the Heavens. The Shrine in the Heavens is called the Bait ul-Ma'moor, and around it the angels circumambulate and worship Allah, the most glorified, by day and by night.
The site chosen for the Shrine to be built upon was Mecca, as indicated by the Qur'an:"
Qur'an
3:96
Inna awwala baytin wudi'a li in-nasi la al-ladhiy bi bakkata
surety, (from the beginning) the first house of promise for the mankind
la al-ladhiy bi bakkata
was the one in Bakka (the area of Mekka, and the plain of Mina & Muzdelifa)
mubarakan wahudan li il-'aalameenaan
full of grace, singularly unique, for all worlds
3:96 The first House (of worship) appointed for men was that at Bakka:
Full of blessing and of guidance for all kinds of beings: (Asad)
Amplified from tafseer:
[inna]
Surety, through Your power alone, and by Your mercies;[awwala baytin]
from the beginning of time You have established this house, this place where Your power & Your mercies are shown, a focal point where Your divine commands enter this world. In the beginning before form, Your intention came forth unseen (al-awwal 'ayn al-batin) to make a bridge of return the next world (al-akhir 'ayn az-zohar) through this manifestation of Your power, grace and mercy;[wudi'a li in-nasi]
a promise, an invitation to humans has existed since that intention formed, to that end;[la al-ladhiy bi bakkata]
through the one that is in the ancient area of Bakka, and is the area that has been special from the first time complete through the end of time.[mubarakan wahudan li il-'aalameenaan]
The one that has provided grace to all universes so that they could worship as they must needs do, all having different kinds of prayers and forms of worships. Even the humans manifested different forms of worship using this power, pagan and otherwise, to their peril."Thus was the first house of Allaah, the Kaba', built by Adam (as) with the help of the angel Jibra'el (as), who brought a stone from Paradise and embedded it in the corner of the holy Kaba' (cube). This stone was bright in the beginning, but with time it lost it's luster, and now looks black, and because of this it is called the "Black Stone" or "Hijra al-Aswad". The circumambulation of the Kaba' is started by kissing (or saluting) this Black Stone. When Adam (as) finished building the House, angel Jibra'el (as) taught him (as) the ceremonies, by the will of Allaah, of circumambulating the Kaba'. This ceremony was to be the most befitting manner to the glory of Allaah.
Adam and Eve (as) were separated in the beginning, but Allaah's mercy was invoked by Adam's (as) entreaties, and Eve was made to join him (as) at the top of a hill in the valley of 'Arafaat. This hill, since then, has been known as Jabbul ur-Rahma, the Mount of Mercy. Adam and Eve discovered and "knew" (sex) each other in the valley. It is called 'Arafaat, meaning recognition or knowledge. Today, in the fashion of Adam (as) people stand in the same valley and invoke Allaah's mercy. This is the greatest rukn, or fundamental pillar of Hajj. [this is the valley and area of Bekka]
Adam and Eve (as) spent the whole day standing in 'Arafat, in a state of extreme humility, gratitude, and awe (communion), and did nothing but worship their Creator (as they did in the Paradise before they were cast down due to their original sin). This is what is done to this day by pilgrims (who also were cast out), and is known as standing in a state of 'arif (communion), or Waquf il-'Arifat.
Adam and Eve (as) then moved to Muzdalifa, the place between Mina and 'Arafaat they spent the whole night the remembrance (dhikr) of Allaah, receiving Allaah's forgiveness. They then came to Mina, then went to Mekka to perform the circumabulation (tawaaf) of the House of the Almighty, to express their (as) gratitude to Allaah for His mercy in their reconciliation.
Later the Kaba' was destroyed by the storm during Noah's (as) time, and as time passed, only a heap remained."
--------------------------
Here is a study from Qur'an and tafseer, about the fall of Adam and Hawwa (as) and the explanation of how the satanic knowledge was exposed to light, thereby dispelled. Then after this enlightenment came the release through the state of 'arifa, there all the damage from the processes of darkness that were the consequences of the "original sin" were lifted, and Adam and Hawwa (as) were reconciled back to their pure states.
One must first have the intention, then gain the knowledge of Reality, then perform the remembrance of God through that manner of Reality, so that the 'arifa, the communion where God's power dispels and rewrites the tablets, becoming the salaw Allaah, true prayer that liberates the ruh from any connection to anything that the advisories intended upon us, to deprive us from our rightful human station in the Kingdom of God. May God Almighty bless us in such a manner as was given to Adam and Hawwa (as). May we have the guidance to find that path, then the courage to progress in it, as God the Highest wills for us.
Qur'an
7:33
Qul inna maa harrama rabbiya al-fawaahisha maa zhahara minhaa wa maa batana
Saying by that power, forbidden by the LORD is lewd indecency, manifest & externally obvious (zohar) from that, and also what is hidden (batin) (being intended but not attained);
wa al-ithma wa al-baghya bi ghayri al-haqqi
and defiled and lustful, through separation away from the reality
wa an tushrikuw bi illaahi lam yunazzil bihi sultanan
and then substituting lesser powers as associates with GOD, without any revelation from that as a command.
wa an taquwluw 'alay allaahi maa laa ta'alamuwn.
and then proclaim (without cause) upon GOD's name, what is not knowledge (fabricating a plausible lie)
Say: My Lord forbiddeth only indecencies, such of them as are apparent and such as are within, and sin and wrongful oppression, and that ye associate with Allah that for which no warrant hath been revealed, and that ye tell concerning Allah that which ye know not. [Pickthall]
The LORD forbids all kinds of worship that are not as He accepts, being fabricated lies and distorted half truths that usurp GOD's power to intend unjustified leadership. This kind of sultanate embraces "end justifies the means" (faraman bi suwa') for the kinds of worship and control that pretend to be knowledge of divinity, and it's divine command, but in fact lead to bewildering degradation, lustful seduction, and political abuse.
This condition placed upon Adam & Hawwa in the garden was not understood, but the evil adviser understood it well. So this advisor, "munsiha", sought to place his false sultanate in the earth, as the tree with the forbidden fruit is definitely the false knowledge and half truth that would temporarily usurp God's grace to be used to prove that Adam (as) was not worthy of carrying the sultanate in an unblemished way.
Qur'an
7:20 Then Satan whispered to them that he might manifest unto them that which was hidden from them of their shame, and he said: Your Lord forbade you from this tree only lest ye should become angels (malakayn - 2) or become of the immortals (al-khalideen). [2 eternal angels, not subject to further change, complete in every way, as gods; not needing or answering to GOD anymore] [Pickthall]
wa qaasama humaa inniy lakumaa lamina an-nasihiyn.
and your share & providence is surety sworn to you 2, then from divine knowledgeable advisors
7:21 And he swore (qismat) unto them (saying): Lo! I am a sincere adviser (nasiha) unto you. [Pickthall]
It is through this "secret" knowledge, and the desire to be independent of GOD, that all of the separation of mankind comes. "Self determination" is an illusion that will be supported for a short period of time only.
From the Sa'iy dua', which is repeated over and over in the supplications, from the 1st rami:
wa tajaawaz 'ammaa ta'alamu.
and pass over & disregard prior & original sins that are understood & known & cast off.
and You perceive, then decide to forego further constriction & punishment (qabid & darr) due to the original sin of Adam (as) and sins accumulated before the time of Hajj. By that knowing (ta'alam) the amaam, all that coming before as a sinful precedent, is burned off and discarded. As Light enters, darkness must needs recede.
innaka ta'almu maa laa na'almu
surety You know what is not known by ourselves (lacking Your intelligence perception)
Your understanding leads to Life (tree of life) and we do not know that, as we are knowing the false outlook (tree of false knowledge).
The verses from the Qur'an and from the sunnat dua' is quite similar. The knowledge that seems to appeal to the world, is the original knowledge of sin, the 'ammaa ta'alamu, the forbidden tree and fruit that is the driving force now in these end times, al-akhira al-zamaan.
Qur'an
7:29 Say: My Lord enjoineth justice. And set your faces, upright (toward Him) at every place of worship and call upon Him, making religion pure for Him (only). As He brought you into being, so return ye (unto Him). [Pickthall]
Thank You God, the almighty,
for the guidance that You have provided through You own light, Muhammad (sal), and for Your bestowal of prayer in the form of 'arifa, a communion.
