The Sword against Ignorance
Verily, God and the angels are interceding
upon the Prophet.
Oh you Believers, intercede for Him also,
in Submission surrendering too.

The Sword against Ignorance

B'ismillaah ir-rahmaan ir-raheem

Allaahuma salli wa sallim wa baarik `alaa man ismuhu Sayyiduna Khateeb ul-umami.
190. Admonisher/Orator to the Nations. – (khataba=propose, address issues, discuss)

9:11 Yet if they repent, and take to prayer (salaw), and render the purifying dues (zakat), they
become your brethren in faith: and clearly do We spell out these messages unto people of
    [innate] knowledge!

Up to this point, I have spoken to the point where a certain willingness is present, as defined by the
Qur`an. If the prayer and alms is physically happening, then there is a possibility for spiritual
refinement. Once the condition passes from being benign to harmful, then another element of the
Qur'an and Rasoolallaah (sal) take a hold. As is suggested by the Qur'an, there are people who will
not even understand that Rasoolallaah (sal) is trying to do something good for them.

8:22 Verily, the vilest of all creatures in the sight of God are those deaf, those dumb ones who
    do not use their reason.
8:23 For, if God had seen any good in them, He would certainly have made them hear: but [as
it is,] even if He had made them hear, they would surely have turned away in their obstinacy.
Also are the hypocrites which had accepted Islam, but for various reasons they chose to
    break the oath of allegiance.
9:65 Yet, indeed, if thou wert to question them. they would surely answer, "We were only
indulging in idle talk, and were playing [with words]. Say: "Were you, then. mocking at God
and His messages and His Apostle?
9:66 Do not offer [empty] excuses! You have indeed denied the truth after [having professed]
your belief [in it] - Though We may efface (erase) the sin of some of you, We shall chastise
others - seeing that they were lost in sin.
9:67 The hypocrites, both men and women. are all of a kind: they enjoin the doing of what is
wrong and forbid the doing of what is right and withhold their hands [from doing good]. They
are oblivious of God, and so He is oblivious of them. Verily, the hypocrites-it is they, they who
    are truly iniquitous.

So eventually we reach a point where action has to be taken. Then the dimensions of spiritual and
martial action becomes necessary. It is of note that there is an inner meaning and an outer meaning,
as suggested by the sayings of Rasoolallaah (sal); jihad al-Akbar, and jihad as-sagir.

Stupid & Deaf
There is also an inner dimension to these names as well. If you analyze the various types of lives
within yourself, you may find some lives present that fit these categories. They are either incapable of
understanding surrender by their vary nature, being deaf to the Rasool's (sal) voice.
Arrogant & Defiant
Qur'an suggests that even if we were to somehow teach these lives some capability of understanding,
they would openly oppose surrender anyhow, and the whole exercise is a waste of time and effort.
They will openly fight, comprehending their own way, and will never understand any ways of reality.
Envious & Contending
Any time that truth is placed over partisan interests, the result is fighting. If any group has created a
vested interest in keeping things the same, there will be openness to envy and hatred through
compulsion.

3:19 Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and
those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent
views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who
denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning!

External
This is an important Qur'anic concept to understand because it is not just historical, but still working
today. Then as today, as Islam is proclaimed the best and the last of monotheist religions, people
with investment in other religions will fight and resist. Each religion is proclaiming itself as the best and
the last and the most effective. If we examine the people who were given religions before Islam, it will
resemble the condition the Qur'an describes. They will exhibit traits of of jealous resentment to a
change in power, and also they will try to dilute and infuse confusion to the establishment of any
correction of falsehoods by the Jabbarut.
For example, the Christians were accepting until the revelation of the falsehood of the trinity came.
The Jewish people were willing to accept an Arab prophet (sal) until the Kab'a was changed from al-
Qudds to Mekka Mukarrama. The Sabians (queen Sheba) were accepting until it was shown that
blood lines and heredity of Saleem (Solomon)(as) were not important factors to the Truth.
Internal
In the path of Sufism, the discernment of spirits is important. It is also of note that many spirits are not
compatible to surrender to God. For the purposes of this writing, we need to accept that the 3 kinds
that fight (stupid/deaf, arrogant/defiant, envious/continuous) exist in the heart as well as the external
circumstance. In the sense of the Qur'an, if the spirit can submit through prayer and make tazkiyyat
(cleansing), then it can be a believing spirit. If it can not accept, and there are many that can not
accept, then they need to be cleared in spiritual death. What does that mean? It is breaking of a bad
habit that is counterproductive.
I would like to show by example. For the letters J-N-N, there are different forms. One of the most
well known is jinn. However the same letters form jannat, the garden. There is also the janaan, the
soulish qualities of mind and desire, or what our shaykhs call "ego".

Allaahuma salli wa sallim wa baarik `alaa man ismuhu Sayyiduna Miftaah ul-jannati.
148. Key to the Eternal Gardens of Paradise. – (rawda)
Allaahuma salli wa sallim wa baarik `alaa man ismuhu Sayyiduna Mutahhar ul-janaani.
180. Purifier of the Soul (the soulish quality to indulge and be dissolute).

This is just one example. If you look carefully at this you will see that it is a lot like nafs. As there are
different kinds of nafs or thinking, there are also different kinds of emotion as well. I don't want to
over dwell on this point. It is enough that Rasoolallaah (sal) explained that there are 2 kinds of jihad,
the jihad al-Akbar and the jihad as-sager. There are both believing nafs and janeen. There are 2
kinds, jinn and men, that can believe. There are also 2 kinds that can mislead.

    114:6 min al-jinati wa an-nas
"from all [temptation to evil by] invisible forces as well as men,"
